Product Information
Specification
BELGIUM: Bronze, non wearable (table), WW1
Commemorative Plaque-Medal for the 1914
battle of Yser, where the Belgian Army despite
losing in the effort the 1/3 of its total strength,
managed to stop the German advance.
Named plaque, by Eugene Canneel, attributed
to Jean Fourier.

These table medals are quite rare because,
just like the Yser Crosses, they had to be
paid by their recipients and not by the Belgian
state.
The medals became available for purchase in
the late 30s and were available in 2 forms (in
bronze or silver) to those who had received
the "Card of Fire" (a card that was issued to
those who were actively involved in front line
operations).
Diameter 6,5 cm (approx. 2,56 Inch.)
Weight: 94 gramms
