United Nations: UN Service Medal Korea, Dutch
Version.
Dutch issue of the United Nations Korean War
Commemorative Medal, awarded to UN military
personnel for service in Korea (1950–1954).
Bestowed “For Services Defending the Principles
of the United Nations Charter,” this medal
represents the Netherlands’ contribution to UN
forces in the Korean conflict.
The Medal was established by the UN in 1950 and
was the first international award ever created by
the United Nations.
It was awarded to members of the multi-national
forces who participated in the Korean War (27
June 1950 and 27 July 1954), in different reverse
side form for each participating Nation.
Especially for the Dutch forces the service period
for the award had been extended until 01 Jan.
1955.
A total of only 3972 Dutch soldiers & 1360 sailors
of the Royal Netherlands Navy served in Korea
during the War, hence the medal is very hard to
find.
A historic Cold War–era award.
