Luxembourg: Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy 
of Luxembourg, Knight’s Cross. 
In its original box of issue. 
A nice early example.
On the obverse: the Coat of Arms of Luxembourg 
(A lion Rampant).
On the reverse: The crowned cypher of Grand 
Duchess Charlotte I.
The Order was instituted in 1961, on the occasion 
of the 65th birthday of Grand Duchess Charlotte I 
(23 January 1961). 
It was awarded for significant contribution to the 
reconstruction of the country following the end of 
WW2.
Eligible for the award were men and women, 
citizens of Luxembourg as well as foreigners.
Given the small population of Luxembourg the 
Order is rarely found.
