GREAT BRITAIN: WW1 Officer's Cap Badge of 
the Suffolk Regiment.
Rare early type with lugs.
The Suffolk Regiment was an infantry 
regiment of the British Army with a history 
dating back to 1685. 
During WW1, the 1st Battalion of the 
Regiment saw action on the Western Front 
(Second Battle of Ypres, May 1915, where it 
suffered 400 losses) before it was transferred 
to Egypt.
The 2nd Battalion distinguished itself at the 
Battle of Le Cateau (26 Aug. 1914) where 
during a rear-guard operation, while out-
manned and out-gunned by superior German 
forces, they fought almost to the last man 
(720 out of 1000 men of the 2nd Battalion 
were killed, wounded or captured among them
the Commanding Offieer Lt. Col. C.A.H. Brett 
DSO (KIA) and the 2nd in Command, Maj. E.C. 
Doughty (WIA)).
