NAZI Germany - Weimar Republic:
Miniature stickpin version of the WW1 Langemarck
Cross, a commemorative award instituted in 1933
by Adolf Hitler for veterans of the 26th Reserve
Corps of Köln, also known as the “Green Corps.”
This rare decoration honored the men of the
233rd–240th Reserve Infantry and the 51st–52nd
Foot Artillery Regiments.
A unique early Nazi-era military souvenir tied
directly to WW1 German veterans.
The Battle of Langemarck (a village in Flanders),
on 21 Oct. 1914, was part of the First Battle of
Ypres (also called the First Battle of Flanders)
was later made into a myth and glorified as the
"sacrifice of the German youth ", as during the
battle, 2000 students - all volunteers - lost their
lives.
A scarce decoration.
