Product Information
Specification
Imperial Germany - Kingdom of Saxony:
Commemorative Cross for the 1866 German
Civil War (War vs Prussia).
On wrong ribbon (it is the ribbon of the
Friedrich August's medal, which closely
resembels the combatants ribbon).
The Cross was instituted in 1867 by King
Johann for all soldiers who had participated
in the War regardless of whether they had
seen action or not.
The war was fought between the German
Confederation under the leadership of the
Austrian Empire and its German allies on
one side (Bavaria, Saxony, Wurttemberg
etc) and the Kingdom of Prussia with its
German allies (Mecklenburg, Oldenburg,
Anhalt, Brunswick, Hanseatic Cities etc) and
Italy on the other.
The War resulted in Prussian dominance over
the German states.
In the Italian unification process, this is called
the Third Independence War.
