Product Information
Specification
Imperial Germany - Duchy of Saxe - Altenburg:
WW1 Bravery Medal.
Late example, in zinc. On single bar.
The medal was instituted, by Duke Ernst II, in 1915
and was issued to NCOs (Non Commissioned
Officers) and other ranks for outstanding and
exceptional bravery in the field.
The recipients of the medal could either be
personnel of the 8th Infantry Division/153rd
Thuringian Infantry Regiment or citizens of the
Duchy that were enlisted in other Units of the
Imperial Army or Navy.
This is the rare latest example of the medal, in zinc
(war metal) that was issued in 1918.
The medal was originally produced in bronze, in
1916 it was made of coppered zinc and in 1918 in
zinc as copper was reserved for the war effort.
Only 2300 medals were issued in zinc (from a total
of 11900 that were issued since its institution).
