France WWI Firemen Silver Honor and Meritorious Service Medal 1st type 1900 by Roty

France: Honor and Meritorious Service medal 
for firemen.
This is the rare 1st type of the medal, with the 
year of institution (1900) on the reverse side. 
The 2nd type is identical without the date.
The medal was issued for long service and 
good conduct as well as for acts of courage 
and bravery. 
The issuance of the silver medal required 20 
years of service or an act of exceptional 
bravery. 
Signed by O. Roty, hallmarked and marked 
"Argent" by the Paris Mint, on the rim, for 
silver construction.
