maker’s mark. 
Issued unofficially by the municipality of Verdun 
to those who fought in the February 1916 battle. 
Features Vernier’s engraved signature, the motto 
“On ne passe pas,” and the date “21 Février 1916” 
on the reverse. 
A scarce and desirable Verdun piece.
