FRANCE: Silver Commemorative medal of the
Morocco Campaign (1908) with "Casablanca"
and "Maroc" clasps on the ribbon.
Hallmarked "1" for silver purity and signed by
George Lemaire.
The medal was instituted in 1909 and was
awarded to military and civilian personnel who
participated in the "pacification" campaign of
Morocco (1907 - 1909).
The "Casablanca" clasp was issued to Navy
personnel for service, between 5 Aug. 1907 and
15 Jun. 1909, in Morocco, or on board a vessel
of the Naval Forces detached to Morocco or
charged with a mission in Moroccan waters.
The "Maroc" clasp was awarded together with
the Commemorative medal, for service during
the years 1911 and 1912.
Later on (decrees of 1912 and 1913) the
qualification period was prolonged to cover
also service in Morocco until 1912, the year
that France declared officially Morocco as a
Protectorate.
