Early example of the medal, maker marked by 
Lindman & Tillander. 
The medal was instituted in 1918 by the Finnish 
Senate. 
The first examples, like the medal offered here, 
were made from blackened or silvered iron, 
while the later examples were made from silver. 
The Finnish War of Independence (or War of 
Liberation) from Russia during 1918, following 
the Bolshevik Revolution, is considered a part 
of WW1.
