The Military Cross was established in 1885, in 
2 Classes.
The 1st Class, like this example, was awarded 
to Officers for 25 years of continuous military 
service. 
Extremely rare as the Belgian Army always 
was/is by definition small. 
This is a WW1 era example but it can also 
used as boutonniere for the WW2 and post 
WW2 period Crosses since the design 
remained the same.
