(Bravery) Medal - Large Gold, 1st Class.
With "K" device on the ribbon, indicating award to 
Officer.
Kaiser Franz Joseph issue.
This was the ultimate bravery award for NCOs 
(Non Commissioned officers) and other ranks. 
Since Sep. 1917 the Gold Tapferkeit could also be 
awarded to Officers when their acts of bravery 
didn't justify the award of the Military Order of 
Maria Theresa.
In such cases a "K" device (for Kaiser Karl) was 
added on the ribbon - such as in this example.
This is an unmarked, gilt, privately made example 
of the medal.
