Principality of Monaco: Medal of Honor, 1st Class
(silver gilt).
In its scarce box of issue, by maker Louis Aubert-
Paris, with the Princely Cipher of Prince Louis II
and the class of the medal (I) on the lid.
Early example of the medal issued during the
reign of Prince Rainier III.
The medal is scarce, especially in its 1st class.
The medal was initially instituted in 1894 by
Prince Albert.
In 1925 it was amended by Prince Louis II and
in 1952 by Prince Rainier III, to show the images
of the respective rulers.
The medal was awarded in 3 classes to reward
devotion and exceptional civil and military
services to the Principality and its Prince.
Given the fact that Monaco is the 2nd smaller
country in the world, with population of only
33.000 inhabitants, all its awards are extremely
scarce.
