Decoration of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig - Medal for
Long Loyal Services (Für Langjährige Treue Dienste). 
The medal was instituted in 1843 by Grand Duke 
Ludwig III. It was awarded until 1918 bearing the
portrait of the respective Grand Duke of the 
period of issue (Ludwig III, Ludwig IV or Enrst 
Ludwig).
This example with the head of Ernst Ludwig was 
issued since 1894 up until 1918.
This is an early example, in silver, issued until 
1917. Since 1918 the medals issued were made 
of silvered zinc.
The medal is scarce.
