Cross for the Battle of the Somme - 1st type of the
Cross with edged arms.
With it's original, numbered (#4205) diploma of issue
to an NCO (Corporal) - dated 1933.
There are 5 types of these Crosses (Somme, Verdun,
Champagne, Argonne, and Eastern Front) for the
veterans who participated in the respective battles-
campaigns.
All were made by the same maker and were privately
purchased by the Veterans. Despite being unofficial
awards they were proudly worn on medal bars just
like the officially issued war medals.
All Crosses were banned in 1935 by the Nazi regime.
