Imperial Germany: Original WW1 propaganda
postcard depicting the Jesus-Cross of Saarburg -
a damaged religious monument known as "Der
klagende Christus" (“The Lamenting Christ”.
The caption explains that this is a memorial to
the Battle of Saarburg on 20 August 1914. The
roadside field cross near Bühl, located on the
battlefield, was struck by a shell that removed
the cross, but the statue of Christ miraculously
survived intact.
