Imperial Germany: Original WW1 studio portrait 
photo featuring a soldier of the 1st Luftschiffer 
Abteilung (Airship Detachment) in full uniform.
The soldier is wearing the standard issue dark 
blue tunic (Waffenrock) with piping and Polish 
cuffs.
The shoulder boards are white with a dark (likely 
red) embroidered stylized capital letter "L" and 
the number "1" for the 1st Luftschiffer Abteilung.
Written on the reverse (a Christmas Greetings 
message) - the text confirms that the depicted 
soldier is a member of the airship/balloon troops
as it is signed "Luftschiffer". 
Postmark from Mannheim, dated 13.12.1915.
