Germany: Silesian Eagle Medal - Badge, 1st Class.
Enameled example - rare luxurious version.
The medal was established in 2 classes (with
possible additions of swords and oak leaves) in
1918 and was awarded to the Volunteers of the
Freikorps (Freedom Fighter Units) who fought in
Silesia during the 3 Silesian Uprisings (1918-1921)
of the Poles and Polish Silesians of Upper Silesia
against the German rule.
The 1st Class of the medal was awarded for 6
months of service.
The medal had to be purchased by the recipients
and it was one of the few Freikorps awards that
was not banned during the 3rd Reich (the swords
and oak leaves were banned though).
