FRANCE: Colonial medal. Silver (bronze silver plated).
Rare version of the medal, marked "Bronze" on the rim, without the 
designer's "GL" monogram (for George Lemaire). 
Hallmarked with a triangle on the rim, example, of the 1930's, by 
Arthus Bertrand. 
The Colonial medal was established in 1893 and was awarded to 
military personnel who operated in French colonies and protectorates.
In total there are established 52 official and 63 unofficial bars for the 
colonial medal. 
The award was replaced in 1962 by the Overseas Medal.
