In its box of issue by Fonson with the name of the
recipient written on the reverse.
Following the end of WW2, Germany was divided
by the Allied Forces, into several occupational
zones (4 Major zones and 3 Minor zones).
The Belgian zone was formed as a corridor from
the Belgian-German border to the edge of the
Soviet zone, and it included the important town
of Cologne.
The Belgian Army of occupation, the Belgian
Forces in Germany (FBA-BSD), was formed by
soldiers of the former Free Belgian forces, it was
commanded initially by General Jean-Baptiste
Piron and remained under British command
until 1946 - acting autonomously ever since.
