BELGIUM: Commemorative Military Medal for the
participation in the Operations during the Korean
War, under the UN mandate.
With 2 bars: "Korea" in French and Flemish and
"Imjin" and the "Red Cross" sign on the ribbon
that denotes one Combat Wound.
The Imjin bar has been awarded to the 700 men
of the Belgian Battalion under the Command of
Lt. Colonel Albert Crahay for participation in the
respective battle of the Imjin River (22–25 April
1951).
Signed "J. Demart51".
The medal was established in 1951 and the design
of its reverse side was later used as well for the
UN respective Commemorative Medal which was
issued to the members of the Belgian Contingent.
A rare decoration (less than 3.500 medals were
awarded in total) with an even rarer bar.
