Austro-Hungarian Empire: WW1 Cap Badge
depicting young Crown Prince Franz Joseph
Otto von Habsburg.
Issued for Red Cross fund raising purposes.
The cap badge is extremely rare.
Otto von Habsburg (20 Nov. 1912 – 4 Jul. 2011)
was the last crown prince of Austria-Hungary
from 1916 until the dissolution of the empire in
Nov. 1918. He was the eldest son of Kaiser Karl,
the last emperor of Austria-Hungary and his wife
Kaiserin Zita of Bourbon-Parma.
Given that his father never abdicated, Otto was
considered by himself, his family and Austro-
Hungarian legitimists to be the rightful emperor
following his father's death in 1922.
Crown Prince Otto von Habsburg died in Bavaria
but the funeral took place in Vienna.
